Announcing the Mission Project!

Go Big and Go Blog!

Mountain Hardwear's Mission Project: test both yourself and our gear, tell fellow adventurers about it, and enter to win great prizes, including the gear hog's Holy Grail, a guided trip up Mt. Rainier and $2,000 shopping spree.

Redpoint that pesky climb. Bag Colorado's 14ers in a single summer. Knock out 30,000 vert in 30 days at your climbing gym (hopefully not all to the same song). Nail your first triathlon. Escape on a point-to-point backpack trip. Clean Moab's Slickrock Trail. Whatever you do, take your Mountain Hardwear gear, put it through its paces, and tell our customers how it performed. That's how we got our start, and we want you to do the same.

Birds on the Brain

ToughGuys

Part of the Mountain Hardwear crew spent Martin Luther King Jr. weekend in Ouray, Colorado at the Ouray Ice Fest. If you ever get the chance to go to the Ice Fest, you should. It's a blast.

A few of us stayed to climb on Monday after the event. As sponsors, we don't really get to climb much during the event, too much else going on. We heard that Bird Brain Boulevard had more ice on it than usual and decided the time is now. There were four of us on two ropes into the wee hours of the nights.

We threw a few more photos up on Flickr - Check 'em out

The Curse of Venezuela: Ticks, Scorpions, and Tarantulas oh my!

libecki_vz.jpg

By Mike Libecki

I just got back from far out in the fantasyland of the Gran Sabana, Venezuela. This is the same place Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's stories of The Lost World originated, and it is no wonder why. It is one of the planet's least explored and most unique ecosystems, and it is estimated that there are still thousands of plant, animal, and insect species waiting to be discovered among the jungles and atop the unique Tepui mountains. Of course, we headed to the area because it is home to huge, overhanging, equatorial heated walls for exposed big wall climbing.

Ingredients for a Classic?

There are some styles that quite simply define a brand. The ones featured below might be some of your favorites, they might not be. One thing is certain, they all have the definitive Mountain Hardwear "look." What the French call a certain "I don't know what." Cast your vote for the defining piece. If your favorite style isn't in our poll, post a comment to this entry and tell the Mountain Hardwear community which one you'd vote for!
