Ski The Himalayas Re-turns

Mountain Hardwear Athlete, Ben Clark, Josh Butson and Jon Miller travelled to Nepal to explore the culture, it's steep terrain and to ski. The three witnessed an authentic glimpse into the unspoiled heights of the world's most massive mountains.

Episode 001

"Honk, they'll get out of the way" is the insiders look at the first of 14 episodes of raw footage used in the upcoming Ski The Himalayas film. Ben Clark, Jon Miller and Josh Butson travel through Hong Kong, Kathmandu and into the remote village of Tumlingtar in Nepal. Clark interviews the group and locals developing a look at modern day Nepal and the "last town with an airport" as the team begins the 17 day approach to 23,390' Baruntse.

MH Supports Amputee & Paraplegic Ascent of Kiliminjaro

Two challenged athletes, paraplegic Erica Davis and below-the-knee amputee Tara Butcher, along with their crew and teammates, have successfully summited Mt. Kiliminjaro in Tanzania. The crew, with support from the Chek Institute, Mountain Hardwear, Overstock.com and many others, climbed the peak to raise awareness for individuals with physical challenges and to raise money for the Challenged Athletes Foundation. In doing so, Erica has become the first female paraplegic to summit Mt. Kiliminjaro. The trip will be documented in video in a film to be released later this year, Through the Roof. Look for it at a film festival near you in late 2010 and early 2011. Feeling generous this year? Make a donation to help support the cause.

Ueli Steck Speed Solo of the Ginat on the Droites

On the 19th January Ueli Steck arrived for first lift at the bottom of the Grands Montets after a long drive from Bern where he had been working in a seminar. Kitted up, he headed over towards the Droites north face and soloed up the classic Ginat route in 2.08 hrs. Compared to his other speed ascents this might not seem like cutting edge but then he wasnt acclimatized and he hadn't done any alpine climbing of any note for over two months now. This ascent was for "fun" as he put it- not to break any speed records. *Click images to enlarge

Video Clips of Erik Weihenmayer's Mount Everest Journey

By Mountain Hardwear Blind Adventurer, Erik Weihenmayer

In celebration of the 10th anniversary of my Mt. Everest expedition, which is approaching, we developed an interactive journey where students can follow me and my team as we ascend the world's highest peak. My Mount Everest Journey combines Google Earth views (in either 3-D or 2-D views) with video clips of our expedition and descriptions of key stages of our climb.

MH Announces Expedition Sponsorship Recipients for 2010

Mountain Hardwear, a leading mountaineering and outdoor clothing and equipment company, announces the recipients of the 2010 Expedition Sponsorship Program. Mountain Hardwear will give total of $10,000 to help fund five 2010 expeditions.

2010 Expedition Sponsorship Recipients

Latok I, North Ridge - David Falt, Krister Jonsson and Marco Koupiainen
The group will travel to Pakistan from July to August 2010 to attempt an alpine style first ascent of the North Ridge of Latok I (7145m), a 2500m climb comprising of complex, steep terrain through rock, ice and mixed climbing. The North Ridge of Latok I is one of the most notorious unfinished projects in the Himalayas. The team plans to carry enough supplies to last up to 15 days on the route, allowing them staying power to sit out potential bad weather. The team members each have roughly 20 years of climbing experience in Scandinavia, the Alps, Yosemite, Himalaya and Alaska.

Jankuth, West Face - Malcolm Bass and Pat Deavoll
From September to October 2010, the team of two will attempt a first ascent of Jankuth (6805m), in Northern India on the Gangotri Glacier. In September 2004, Pat, Malcolm and three others attempted the ascent, but were shut down on two different routes due to inclement weather. Inspired by Jankuth, the highest mountain left unclimbed in the Gangotri region, Pat and Malcolm will call upon the time honored Garwhal ethic of self sufficient exploration choosing a "fast and light" climbing approach.

Ski Kyrgyzstan 2010 - Nathan Rowland and Ollie Nieuwland-Zlotnicki
Ski mountaineers Nathan Rowland and Ollie Nieuwland-Zlotnicki, both current residents of Aspen, CO, will travel to Kyrgyzstan in May 2010 for a circumnavigation of the Al-Dyrtr and Kary Sars glaciers in the Tien-Shan Mountains with multiple first ascent and descent attempts. The project ventures into a remote area of Kyrgyzstan that has rarely been visited or explored.

Trek for a New Nepal - Allegra Fisher, Caroline Pihl and Sarah Mortati
Wilderness explorers Allegra, Caroline and Sarah plan to be the youngest women, and the first Americans, to complete a traverse of the Great Himalayan Trail in Nepal. From November 2010 to April 2011, their goal will be to traverse Nepal from east to west while documenting the educational and environmental development potential along the newly created 1,600km Nepali portion of the Great Himalayan Trail.

2 Wheels 4 Education - Eleanor Moseman
Beginning in April 2010, Eleanor, a photographer who has been living and working in China, will attempt to complete a year-long, solo bicycle journey around Asia while raising money and awareness for two charities, Girls Education International and Stepping Stones China. She plans to document the journey through China, Mongolia and Russia through her photography, a book, and eventually, a cycling guidebook. Eleanor was inspired to raise awareness for female equality after noticing the obvious differences in rights between the male and female genders, and the disadvantages most females face living in China. www.2wheels4girls.com

Another Killer OutDry Review

From Doglotion.com

"Yep, our first 10 out of 10 gear review. Kinda like the Nadia Comaneci of the ski glove world, but, um, different. Simply put, the Mountain Hardwear Bazuka Gloves are the best gloves I've ever had, by a long shot. They're also most likely the first gloves I'll keep for more than a season without using duct tape."

Skyledge 2.1

[best all-around] Skyledge 2.1
This three-season workhorse just got even better; It dropped three-quarters of a pound for 2010. It's the perfect choice for hikers who want serious weight savings, durability, and unflappable storm protection. The floor is a bomber 70-denier nylon, and in Idaho's City of Rocks the wind-shedding design stood strong through violent thunderstorms. Testers also praised the new corner attachments, which secure the poles, fly, and stake-down loop - all in one piece, which improves convenience and shaves weight. The 50-inch width (tapering to 40 inches at the foot) just fits two sleeping pads, but the near-vertical walls provide ample headroom; the 85-inch-long floor is adequate for all but the tallest campers. Two doors and vestibules are generously sized, and the brow pole creates a drip-free door, since it holds the fly away from the opening. Large swaths of mesh enhance ventilation and "made this tent a joy, even during steamy Adirondack nights in black-fly season," reports one tester. Bonus: six pockets, a generous number for such a light tent. Nitpicks: The drab fly color gives the interior a gloomy tint (but blends into scenery), and testers wished the brow pole ends attached more securely to the fly to keep them from inconveniently slipping out of place during setup. 3 lbs. 7 oz.
