The Wilderness is no Match for Her

Stacie Blair

Outdoor Diva Stacie Blair

This diva has a love for the wilderness and the Earth that first began with a fossil found in a gravel pit in Central Nebraska. She followed this love by camping with her brother and then earning her undergraduate and graduate degrees in Geology. This diva has hiked over 50 miles with 70 pounds on her back over rugged trails in Montana's Bob Marshall Wilderness. Fallen trees nearly as thick as she is tall coupled with feet of fallen snow proved no barrier to her. She kept on trekking through it all. Horse flies that make you bleed and poison ivy have yet to ruin a trip. The long drive from Florida to the Rockies has yet to stop her. During her undergraduate days at Nebraska she explored alpine caves in Wyoming's Big Horn Wilderness and once attempted to summit Cloud Peak. She spent six weeks hiking and mapping rock formations at the base of the Big Horns. Spring break trips to New Mexico's Gila Wilderness proved no match for her; even with snow littering the ground and the trail crossing the river two dozen times. Her most recent outdoor crusade went straight through the thick swamp known as the Bradwell Bay Wilderness in Apalachicola Nation Forest in northern Florida. With all the experiences she has had she still continues to amaze me with her drive and enthusiasm for the outdoors. Weekend trips with the dog are not out of the question. And if all that wasn't enough this diva is currently exploring the vast frozen continent of Antarctica at McMurdo Station while earning her PhD in Geology from Florida State University. Lastly none of this would be possible if it weren't for the loads of gear currently stored in the closet ready and waiting for her next adventure.
